Logistics experience along the Ruhr

Duisport L4G GroupThe third project meeting was held on September 12-13 in Dortmund and Duisburg, Germany. On September 11th, most project partners had already arrived in Dortmund at the western "border" of the Ruhr Area to participate in the Zukunftskongress Logistik. Within the congress, general questions regarding future logistics were discussed. Which logistic concepts do we need in the digital age?

How can a sustainable, integrated transport system be created? In times of Web 2.0, what can logistics learn from the new consumers and to what extend do consumers call for social standards in logistics?

High-ranking experts unfolded their personal visions for the logistics of tomorrow. More than 500 participants attended the exciting presentations and discussions in the future sequences of the plenary session with great interest. A simultaneous translation allowed the international guests from the LOG4GREEN project to participate in this congress.

he second project meeting started on September 12th at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML in Dortmund. Key aspects of the agenda were the results of the Regional Analysis, presented through poster presentations, and the upcoming work package. How do we want to create and design our Strategic Interdisciplinary Research Agenda (SIRA) and the Joint Action Plan (JAP)? What are the most relevant challenges for logistics in general and from the regions perspective, how do they relate to the defined categories (environmental, societal, technological, economic, etc). A final work plan with the next steps was generated and agreed upon on the second day of the meeting, taking place at the Gerhard-Mercator-House of the University of Duisburg Essen.

A study tour to duisport harbor completed the second consortium meeting. The consortium members where joined by additional members of the Cluster “Logistics in Wallonia” who took the opportunity to get in contact with the duisport management. The guests from Liége were very pleased to detect the sign for the honorary consulate of Belgium next to the entrance door - Mr. Erich Staake himself, president and ceo of the Duisport group, acts as the honorary consul! The presentation by Dr. Julian Böcker from the Duisburger Hafen AG informed about the past development and future prospects of the port. The partners from Ukraine and Belgium where especially interested in multimodal transports, the administration structure of the duisport group and the interaction of private and public service providers within the port.

A roundtrip through Logport I, with 3 square kilometers one of the biggest logistic centers of duisport, impressively showed the importance and rapid development of the biggest inland port in Europe.
